Journalist was killed in Afghanistan. #Femfacts
Women's rights defender and journalist Malalai Maiwandi was shot dead by two armed men in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, along with her driver. It is noteworthy that Malalai's mother, also an activist, was killed under similar circumstances five years ago.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but there are strong suspicions that the Taliban is behind the increasing violent acts against journalists and activists in Afghanistan. The latter firmly denies involvement in the attacks.
Malalai's murder further diminishes an already small platform for women's work, as such incidents awaken fear and the instinct for self-preservation among journalists. It is feared that women's rights will regress if the Taliban's return to power and similar violent trends continue.
