GRLZWAVE: EMPOWERING VOICES, SHAPING FUTURES

Founded in 2019, GrlzWave is a queer-feminist organization based in Tbilisi, Georgia. As a women-led, youth-led organization, our mission extends beyond the boundaries of conventional activism. We are dedicated to uplifting women and marginalized groups, striving for a society where every voice is heard, and every individual can thrive without the constraints of discrimination or violence.

OUR MISSION AND VISION

At the heart of GrlzWave, our aim is to dismantle the barriers imposed by gender inequality, disabilities, discrimination, and gender-based violence. We believe in the power of open discussions to challenge stigmas and stereotypes that persist within Georgian society and beyond. By fostering safe spaces for dialogue and support, we encourage our community members to share their experiences and stand in solidarity against hate speech.

Education plays a pivotal role in our approach. Through engaging multimedia content—including video series, photo reportages, and live streams—we tackle misconceptions and promote positive change. Our social media platforms serve as our primary channels for outreach, exemplifying our dynamic engagement with audiences across Georgia.

OUR IMPACT

GrlzWave is not just an organization; it’s a movement. Our initiatives focus on a wide array of feminist topics such as harassment, gender violence, domestic violence, LGBTQI+ issues, mental health, and sexual and reproductive health rights. We pride ourselves on practicing intersectional feminism, integrating issues related to social justice, the environment, democracy, disinformation, and online hate. This multifaceted activism has led us to organize exhibitions, artivism events, open mic sessions, film screenings, and camps, in addition to launching viral digital campaigns.

Our success in digital activism is reflected in our substantial social media following, with 16.4K followers on Instagram, 94K on Facebook, and 28.6K on TikTok. These platforms amplify our voice, enabling us to reach millions and engage in meaningful conversations about complex social issues. We excel in making these topics accessible and relatable through innovative storytelling and content creation.

OUR COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT

GrlzWave’s core community comprises young individuals aged 14-35, who share a deep commitment to our values and vision. This vibrant group is instrumental in driving our initiatives forward, motivated by the desire for social transformation.

Our projects have garnered support from prestigious institutions and funders, including the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia, RFSU, RFSL, Fillia, Women’s Fund Georgia, Frida Fund, ActionAid Denmark, New Democracy Fund, IWPR, Urgent Action Fund, UNFPA, UNDP, USAID, Open Society Fund Georgia, and more. This backing has empowered us to make a significant impact on various fronts, from advocacy and awareness campaigns to providing support and resources to those affected by discrimination or violence.

We are committed to creating a world where young people, especially girls, feel empowered to express themselves freely, pursue their aspirations, and catalyze positive change in society. By embracing and promoting queer-feminist visions, we aim to lead society toward a future free of oppression—a future where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.
